Introduction
“Trust the process” only comforts you if you have a process. This article gives you one: the 3-Read Method for studying a chapter and the 1-3-7 schedule for keeping it in memory, plus a short calm routine for study sessions and exam day. It matters because ICAG papers reward application under time pressure, and application needs retrievable knowledge.
Trusting the process is not passive
Faith without works is dead, as the old saying goes. You don’t need to share anyone’s religion to see the logic: belief without a plan is a wish. A builder is confident because he checked the level and followed the plan. Your peace should come from evidence that you did the work.
The 3-Read Method
- Survey (10 minutes). Headings, summaries, learning objectives, a skim of examples. Build the map.
- Understand (active). After each section, close the book and explain it in your own words. For a standard: principle, when it applies, outcome (double entry or disclosure).
- Test. Attempt a past or practice question cold. Mark it. List exactly where marks were lost. That list is your revision plan.
The 1-3-7 spaced review
Review each finished topic after 1 day, 3 days and 7 days. Each review is 15 minutes of recall: write the key steps, formats and rules from memory, then check. Keep a simple table: topic, study date, review 1, review 3, review 7.
A calm routine
Two minutes of stillness before each session (prayer, meditation or breathing). Write tomorrow’s three tasks before bed. On exam morning, review your 1-3-7 sheet only. In the hall: breathe, read the whole paper, plan by marks, start with your strongest question.
EXAM TIP: Note the requirement verb (calculate, explain, discuss). Cross-reference workings. State the principle, then apply it to the scenario.
Conclusion
Build the process, work it, then rest in the outcome. Peace follows evidence.
